My background integrates institutional leadership with a personal arts practice. Earning a BFA as a non-traditional student solidified my commitment to the field after years of administrative and entrepreneurial work. Whether managing an arts organization or my own business, I have maintained a studio practice that serves as the basis for my professional work. This perspective allows me to bridge the gap between being a working artist and working in the arts.
Beyond my own studio practice, I have been dedicated to highlighting the work of fellow artists. This interest led to the creation of Artists on Art, a series conversation with artists on the moments that capture us, featuring artists such as Michael Sherrill, Endia Beal, Susan Rostow, and Bill Fick. My commitment to the regional arts grew further during my five years directing a non-profit gallery in Asheville, where I established a well recieved annual juried exhibition serving the greater Western North Carolina area.
Over the next decade, I served in various leadership capacities, ultimately as Executive Director of Sawtooth School for Visual Art. During the unprecedented challenges of 2020, I launched the 'Safe Reboot' of Sawtooth, a strategic initiative that allowed our community to safely return to their practice. This experience reinforced my belief that art is a vital tool for collective resilience.
