Time is a social construct used to organize human experience, create order, and manage life, rather than a reality.
The physical universe involves change, but the division into hours, seconds, and linear progression is a man-made framework for understanding existence.
Capture
Since 2012, my practice has primarily centered on the accumulation of "timestamps"—fleeting marks, objects, and images that document the specificity of occupied time. While these collected moments may appear insignificant in isolation, their collective volume generates a tangible record of human experience. I view each mark as a precise coordinate positioned upon a fragile timeline.
Materiality and Process
Within the process of capturing, the medium becomes the vehicle by which the “timestamp” is realized. At times, this occurs spontaneously, as with the “Vessel” series where the graphite and transient canvas of a coffee cup presented themselves in the moment. Whereas, with the “Walk” series, I chose a sequence of over forty canvases to mirror the repetitive rhythm of a physical journey and oil paint to imbue the soft reflection of the filtered light.
Continuum
There is a retropspective aspect to my work. I reengage with the gathered archive to facilitate a transition of status. This act of chronicling allows the work to exist as a lived archive.
